OVERLAND SAFARIS

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS :
Moremi, Savuti, Chobe, Victoria Falls, Popa Falls, Shakawe, Guma Lagoon, Maun

  Botswana:

This is a land of great contrasts. More than 70% of the country is covered by the vast and waterless Kalahari Desert, while to the north-west the Okavango River, born in Angola, flows East into the arid sands of the Kalahari Desert, spreading into a myriad of about 15000 square kilometres of crystal clear water channels, rivers and lagoons, before it disappears beneath the ardent sands of the desert and creating what is known as the World's last greatest wilderness, the Okavango Delta.

  Day 1: Maun - Camp

Transfer from Maun Airport to our offices. There you will complete all the necessary paperwork and receive a briefing regarding the overland vehicle. Once all formalities are complete, there is time for a bit of shopping before we depart for our campsite Kazinkinii, just north of the Buffalo Fence and on the edge of the Delta. (B,L,D)

Day 2: Moremi Game Reserve - Camp

We head for Moremi Game Reserve where the day is spent game viewing. Our camp for the next 3 nights is at our private campsite in the middle of the wild African bush.

Many travellers regard the Moremi Wildlife Reserve as the most spectacular and beautiful game park in Southern Africa. It covers more than 1000 square kilometres of grassy flood plains in the north-eastern corner of the Okavango Delta. Apart from savannah, the terrain includes winding waterways with banks of reeds, palm-covered islands, thick forest and lush, lily-covered lagoons where hippos bathe and sport.

With such a wide variety of vegetation comes an incredibly wide spectrum of wild life. Huge herds of impala and tsessebe are always in the area, while in the dry season large herds of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra flock into the park from the Kalahari in search of food and water. The rare sitatunga and lechwe antelope live in the papyrus banks of the waterways. Lions, cheetahs and packs of wild dogs hunt in the open grassland. The reserve is home to an immense number of birds. (B,L,D)

  Day 3 & 4: Moremi - Camp

We explore the Moremi area including the area around Third Bridge and Xananaka, with a boat trip deep into the Delta on Day 3. (B,L,D)

  Day 5 & 6: Savuti - Camp

After breakfast, we depart in a Northerly direction to the Mababe Depression and enter Chobe National Park at the Mababe Gate. We continue on to Savuti. The game viewing en-route should be well worthwhile. (B,L,D)

Chobe, which is the second largest national park in Botswana, covers 10 566 square kilometres. The park is divided into four main focal points comprising the Chobe River front with floodplain and teak forest, the Savuti Marsh in the west about 50 kilometres north of Mababe gate, the Swamps in the north-west and the hot dry hinterland in between . (B,L,D)
